It is What it Is

It is what it is.

Well, duh, is this really worth an entire blog post?

I’ll let you answer that one.

Have you ever lamented over a bad decision? Wished you could press some sort of reset button? Prayed that your situation would change… PRONTO?

I have. A lot.

In fact, for some strange reason I woke up early this morning with a particular situation on my mind. A situation that I wish had never happened. It’s been almost a year and it still creeps in every now and then to “haunt” me.

This morning as I laid in bed I started to run through my mind (again) all of the shoulda coulda wouldas.

And then it came to me… “It is what it is”.

A good friend of mine used to say this all the time. So what does it mean? Well, in less polite terms… deal
with it!

It is what it is.

What happened happened and the only thing that can be done now is how I respond – how I allow the situation to change me, motivate me and mold me.

Far too often we run alternate scenarios in our minds for things that simply can’t be changed, leaving us paralyzed – stuck in the very situation we’re trying to escape when really we just need to embrace that it is what it is and take it from there.

“Far too often we run alternate scenarios in our minds for things that simply can’t be changed”, this right here is oh so very true. But I think the whole “it is what it is” way of thinking is easier said than done. I’m probably wrong though.
